Wine: Red
Region: Toscana
Denomination: Cortona Riserva DOC
Vintage: 2015

If it is true that Cortona is the undisputed homeland of the Italian Syrah, it is also true that it remains a place where Sangiovese manages to express its best. "Smeriglio" is a wine that comes from the older plots of Baracchi winery whose fruits are vinified in steel after harvest and left to mature in first and second passage barriques. The result is a deeply Tuscan red wine, extremely pleasant.

Colour: Brilliant ruby red colour.
Aroma: Beautiful notes of red fruit flanked by floral and balsamic aromas. A memory of spices, tobacco, vanilla and coffee.
Taste: Traditional in its complexity, roundness, and elegance, yet modern in its intense fruitiness. The palate is supported by a medium-smooth tannin well balanced by a good freshness, to ensure the required length of ageing. Superb weight and structure with a classic finish.

Alcohol: 14.5%

Grape: 100% Sangiovese.

Ageing: 12 month, plus other 6 months in bottle.

The Baracchi Estate is located on a beautiful slope just east of Cortona, under Tuscan Sun. Sangiovese, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet and Trebbiano: these are the grapes which liven up Baracchi wines. A tribute to the land of Cortona and to the pleasure of the good wine. An invitation to taste the evolution of an ancient family tradition.

Wine pairing notes

Loyal to the Sichuan tradition Chef Chai Xin recipe calls for the chicken in this dish to be decisively seasoned. The Smeriglio, Sangiovese from Tuscany, with its lot of spicy notes is a great combination.

Wine pairing notes

Succulent and tasteful dishes like these Tea smoked pork ribs require a powerful and tannic wine that helps to boost its taste. The aromas of the wine (blackberry jam, rose, nutmeg, pepper, pine resin) match very well the tea scent..
